| Bermuda
Grass |
| Bermuda grass is a popular choice in the Carolinas. Fast growing and sturdy, it is the grass most used on golf courses. Bermuda grass
can be seeded year round. |
 |
| Centipede
Grass |
Centipede grass
is safely seeded spring through fall. It is a popular
choice for homeowners due to its slow growing
nature. Centipede is more shade-tolerant than Bermuda and
more easily controlled around planting beds.

 |
| Carpet Grass |
| Carpet grass is a warm season grass that grows well on wet, poor soils and in shady areas where most others will not grow. |
 |
| Annual Rye
Grass |
| Ideal for
temporary ground cover in the fall and winter months. Not
a permanent solution for lawns in the Carolinas. |
 |
| Aeration for
Existing Lawns |
| Aeration is the
process of punching holes in the turf to allow water, air, and
nutrients to reach the root system. Warm season grasses
are best aerated in late spring andd early summer when they are
actively growing. Aeration is the best preventative
medicine for a healthy lawn. |
 |
| Ground
Preparation |
| Tilling is the
process of turning soil over usually to a depth of 1
foot. In lawn preparation it is done only in areas where
the soil is overly compacted and loosening of the soil by aeration
would have minimal results. Any areas where trees were
taken out to create a turf would also need to be
tilled. Under most conditions ground prep is achieved by
using scraping blades and aeration
attachments. |
 |
Overseeding |
| For existing
lawns. For warm season grasses this is done in the
spring. Aeration is recommended prior to
overseeding. Winter Rye can also be overseeded on Bermuda
and centipede turfs. |
 |
| Wildflowers |
| These colorful
flowers are creating a lot of attention on the Carolina highways in
the summer months. Ideal time for hydroseeding these
beauties is the fall or ealy spring. Turn an unused part
of your land into a burst of colors. |
