    Aeration for Existing Lawns
Aeration is the process of punching holes in the turf to allow water, air, and nutrients to reach the root system. This is an important step for overseeding projects. It should also be a regular part of the ongoing maintenance of the lawn. Aeration should be done once or twice a year to maintain a healthy lawn with healthy grass.

The process helps reduce thatch that comes from mowing and edging that can choke the grass. Reducing thatch encourages healthy growth by allowing water to reach the soil. Aeration also benefits the soil which becomes compacted over time. When the soil is compacted, water has a difficult time reaching roots.

Lawns subject to high use, such as children or pets, are likely to become compacted more quickly than lawns that do not recieve regular use. Lawns with heavy thatch also need aeration regularly to allow water and nutrients to easily reach the roots of the turfgrass. New lawns that were subject to heavy construction and/or had a lawn established by sod will also need aeration to help loosen the soil.

We offer core aeration where plugs of soil are removed from the ground for best results. Between professional aeration treatments, you can help to maintain the lawn by purchasing and wearing aeration sandals- shoes with spikes that will punch holes in your lawn.
